January 2018 Newsletter

07 Feb 2018

Hello and welcome to the first HCL Newsletter of 2018.

Firstly we wanted to say a big thank you to all our Care Workers for their hard work and commitment to delivering safe services over the Christmas and New Year period and that the management team at HCL really appreciate it, as do our Service Users.

New Contract

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a new contract as a lead provider in Knowsley to deliver services in North and Central Huyton. This is to commence in May 2018 and comes as a natural progression from the localities of Knotty Ash and West Derby currently covered under our Liverpool contract. So if you’re interested in a career in care, do keep a lookout on our Recruitment pages of the site for upcoming vacancies.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPS)

In May 2018, the Data Protection Act (DPA) will be replaced by the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a framework with greater scope and new rules around the storage and handling of personal data.  HCL already have robust guidelines in relation to data protection to ensure both staff and service user data is protected and stored correctly. However we are currently reviewing what action we need to take to ensure we are compliant with GDPR and will keep everyone updated with developments.

STARS Service

We are still looking for Care Workers to join out STARS team, as mentioned in our December Newsletter. Staff must be qualified to Level 2 or above – drivers preferred – with contracted hours available at a rate of £8 per hour and additional mileage allowance for drivers.

However staff can also join HCL and gain skills knowledge and experience of working in the community with the long term goal to become a specialist STARS health care assistant. They can gain their qualifications in preparation for a progression to STARS supporting End of Life Care to people in the last 12 weeks of life at home.

We work in partnership with Marie Curie and Carers Trust4All to deliver a city wide service. HCL covering the north of the City (L4, L5, L6,L9, L10, L11, L12, L13, L14, L20, L28 & L31). Carers Trust4All covering the south and Marie Curie covering the night service city wide.

We are holding a Recruitment Open Day at the HCL office on Wednesday 14 February for all roles that we have available. For more information, please contact us or call the office on 0151 737 2820.

Attendance Awards

At HCL, we hold a prize drawer for staff who make it to 100% attendance for the year and for 2017, the winners were Marie Atkinson for the care team and Lesley Cook from the office, both of whom win a £50 high street voucher to spend. Congratulations to both of you!

Care Certificates

Well done and congratulations to Emma Carmichael and Debbie Tasker who have completed all 15 standards of the Care Certificate.

That’s all for this time but we’ll be back with more updates for February!
